Best Time for a 2 Days 1 Night Cat Ba Trip

If you are wondering when to visit Cat Ba Island, the best time is from April to August. During summer, the weather is sunny, the sea is calm, and rainfall is minimal, making it perfect for outdoor and water activities.

Visitors can enjoy swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, coral watching, windsurfing, and many other exciting experiences. The clear blue sky and refreshing sea breeze create ideal conditions for exploring the island.

In addition, the period from September to November is also a great choice for travelers who prefer cooler weather and fewer tourists. Autumn in Cat Ba is peaceful, pleasant, and suitable for sightseeing and relaxation.

How to Travel to Cat Ba Island

Traveling to Cat Ba today is much easier and faster than before thanks to modern highways and improved transportation systems. Depending on your budget and preferences, you can choose to travel by train, motorbike, private car, or bus.

For this 2 days 1 night self-guided trip, many travelers prefer taking the train from Hanoi to Hai Phong. The ticket price usually ranges from 100,000 VND to 130,000 VND, and the journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.

From Hai Phong city center, travelers continue along the Tan Vu – Lach Huyen route to Cat Hai Island. After that, you can take a ferry from Got Wharf to Cai Vieng Wharf before continuing to the center of Cat Ba Island by car or motorbike.

This route allows visitors to admire the longest sea bridge in Southeast Asia while shortening travel time significantly. The ferry ticket prices are affordable, costing around 6,000 VND for pedestrians, 20,000 VND for motorbikes, and 80,000 VND for cars with fewer than 9 seats.

The ferry ride takes approximately 25 minutes and is considered one of the fastest and most convenient ways to reach Cat Ba Island from Hanoi.

Detailed Cat Ba Travel Itinerary 2 Days 1 Night

Although this Cat Ba trip was planned quite spontaneously, the journey still brought unforgettable memories and many exciting experiences. Below is a detailed itinerary for exploring Cat Ba Island in 2 days and 1 night.

Day 1: Hanoi – Hai Phong – Cat Ba Island

The journey started at around 6:00 AM when we departed from Hanoi to Hai Phong by train. After nearly 3 hours of travel, we arrived in Hai Phong and enjoyed a quick breakfast before continuing our trip to Cat Ba Island.

After checking into the hotel and resting for a short time, we rented motorbikes at around 1:00 PM to visit Cat Ba National Park.

Cat Ba National Park is one of the best places to begin your adventure on the island. Surrounded by majestic mountains and lush forests, the atmosphere here is peaceful and refreshing. Visitors can experience trekking, cycling through the forest, and exploring the rich ecosystem.

During the trip, we also had the opportunity to see rare langurs, enjoy natural products such as wild honey and herbal tea, and admire the breathtaking panoramic view from Ngu Lam Peak.

With an entrance fee of only around 80,000 VND per person, Cat Ba National Park offers an incredible experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

After leaving the national park, we headed to Cat Co 3 Beach to relax, swim in the clear water, and capture beautiful photos along the coastal road.

In the evening, after dinner and some rest, our group decided to explore Cat Ba Town by motorbike. During the daytime, the town is lively and crowded, but at night it becomes peaceful and quiet.

Riding along the mountain roads connecting the three main beaches while enjoying the cool sea breeze was truly one of the most relaxing moments of the trip.

Day 2: Lan Ha Bay – Cai Beo Fishing Village – Monkey Island – Hanoi

On the second day, we spent our time exploring Lan Ha Bay, one of the most beautiful attractions in Cat Ba. In our opinion, Lan Ha Bay was definitely the highlight of the entire 2 days 1 night journey.

After breakfast and hotel check-out, we arrived at Beo Wharf at around 8:00 AM to begin the tour of Lan Ha Bay and Monkey Island.

At first glance, Lan Ha Bay may look similar to Ha Long Bay, but it has its own unique charm. The bay remains peaceful and less crowded, featuring hundreds of limestone islands, hidden caves, and emerald green waters.

During the trip, we also visited Cai Beo Fishing Village, known as the oldest floating fishing village in Vietnam. Around 300 households live here, mainly relying on fishing and seafood farming.

After exploring the village, our group enjoyed a delicious seafood lunch with fresh dishes such as octopus, crab, lobster, sea clams, and local specialties.

In the afternoon, we continued kayaking through the fishing village and nearby small islands before arriving at Monkey Island.

Monkey Island was previously called Cat Dua Island because of the many wild pineapple trees growing there. Today, the island is famous for the monkeys living under the protection of Cat Ba National Park.

If you have enough time and energy, you should climb to the top of the mountain on Monkey Island to enjoy a panoramic view of Lan Ha Bay. The scenery from above is incredibly impressive and often reminds visitors of the famous “dinosaur spine” landscape in Bali.

At around 3:30 PM, we returned to Beo Wharf and officially ended our memorable Cat Ba adventure before heading back to Hanoi.

Estimated Cost for a Cat Ba 2 Days 1 Night Trip
